Quick answer

What is GFIT's online GLP-1 coaching?

GFIT Wellness is a Winnipeg-based, Manitoba-licensed online coaching service for adults on GLP-1 medications (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Zepbound, compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide). Each client works weekly with a certified health & fitness coach — many with specialty GLP-1 certifications — and meets monthly with registered health professionals (Registered Dietitians, Registered Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Naturopathic Doctors, and Clinical Counsellors). The program is built around three outcomes: muscle preservation, sustainable nutrition habits, and successful wean-off without rebound weight gain. Covered by most Canadian extended health insurance plans, NIHB, VAC, and CAF benefits.

The program

GLP-1 weight loss isn't one problem. So we don't run one playbook.

Appetite suppression. Muscle loss. Nutrient gaps. Plateau panic. Wean-off rebound. Each is its own challenge — our 1:1 online coaching treats them as one system, not five separate tabs.

01
Coaching scope

Muscle preservation, programmed precisely

Without structured strength training and adequate protein, up to 40% of weight lost on a GLP-1 can be lean mass — permanently lowering metabolic rate. Your certified coach designs progression that protects what you've built and rebuilds what was lost.

02
RD-led · monthly

Nutrition tuned to appetite suppression

Our Registered Dietitians design intake strategies for when appetite is genuinely 50% lower — hitting protein targets, micronutrient density, and meal cadence that work with the medication, not against it.

03
OT support · monthly

Side-effect navigation & daily routine

Nausea, fatigue, GI shifts, energy fluctuations, sleep disruption. Our Occupational Therapists layer in the daily-routine and sleep strategies that make the program doable when side effects show up.

04
RSW + CC · monthly

Behaviour change for sustainable wean-off

The drug suppresses appetite. Your habits, identity, and emotional patterns are what hold the results when you come off it. Registered Social Workers and Clinical Counsellors build that foundation — monthly 1:1 sessions for life after the prescription.

05
ND support · monthly

Hormones & whole-body health

GLP-1 medications affect more than appetite. Our Naturopathic Doctors coordinate on thyroid, hormones, energy, and metabolic markers — alongside your prescribing physician, never replacing them.

06
Care coordination

Coordinated with your prescribing physician

We work alongside QDoc, family physicians, or whoever wrote your prescription. You don't have to translate between providers — your coach coordinates with the registered professionals on your team and with your medical team where appropriate.

Your coach

Meet your GLP-1 lead — your weekly relationship.

Most GFIT GLP-1 clients work weekly with one of our GLP-1 specialty coaches — each with specialty GLP-1 training. You'll be paired with the right fit for your goals, stage, and personality.

"With a family history of Type 2 diabetes and my own pre-diabetes diagnosis, I learned the answer isn't less food and more punishment — it's working with your body. A GLP-1 like Mounjaro or Zepbound is a powerful tool for blood sugar and appetite, but balancing your metabolism and building lean muscle is what makes the change last. I help Manitobans get there without the burnout."

"I spent years stuck in yo-yo dieting before I lost 100 pounds and kept it off for over a decade — what changed everything was healing my relationship with food, not another quick fix. Ozempic or Wegovy can quiet the noise around eating, but the habits we build underneath it are what hold your results when you come off. That's the work I do with my Winnipeg clients: sustainable, compassionate, built for your life."

"I lost 100 pounds and kept it off for 14 years, and I even reversed my own pre-diabetes along the way — so I know lasting change comes from habits you can actually sustain, not quick fixes. A GLP-1 can be a powerful tool, but the routines we build together are what hold your results when you come off it. I meet my Winnipeg clients where they're at and build a plan that fits their real life."

GFIT Wellness Winnipeg client Brandon — before and after weight-loss transformation with Coach Anthony

"I've been with Team GFIT for the past year and a half. Since working with Anthony my life has done a complete 180! We've lost 90 lbs working together and are continuing to crush goals. He's always there when I need him — by text, email or call. The workouts are challenging and always changing to keep progress coming, and the same goes for the diet. Would definitely recommend."

"January 2023, I took my first step and never looked back. It's been a battle, but like in any good battle, it's easier fought when you have a brother beside you to have your back. My coach has ALWAYS had my back. It's just the start, plenty more to accomplish. Feeling grateful!"

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much muscle do you actually lose on Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro?
Without structured strength training and high protein intake, up to 40% of the weight you lose on a GLP-1 can be muscle. With proper coaching — resistance training two to three times per week, plus roughly 1g of protein per pound of lean body mass — that number drops dramatically. Our GLP-1 program is built specifically around minimizing that loss.
How do I preserve muscle while on a GLP-1?
Two things matter most: protein intake (typically 1g per pound of lean body mass per day) and resistance training (two to three sessions per week). Both are harder than they sound when appetite is suppressed and energy is variable. That's exactly what your weekly certified coach and monthly Registered Dietitian sessions are designed to address.
How do I come off Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro without regaining the weight?
The wean-off period is when most patients regain — because the appetite suppression goes away before the new eating habits are fully established. Our GLP-1 program prepares you months in advance: building satiety habits, structured meal patterns, and metabolic resilience that hold the weight loss in place. Your Registered Social Worker and Clinical Counsellor sessions handle the behaviour-change layer that holds the foundation.
How much protein do I need on Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro?
Most clients aim for approximately 1g of protein per pound of lean body mass per day. For a 150-pound person with average body composition, that's roughly 120–140g daily. Getting that much protein in when appetite is suppressed requires strategy — which your monthly Registered Dietitian session is designed to build.
Is GLP-1 coaching covered by insurance in Manitoba?
Often yes — and often from multiple categories of your plan because GFIT's team includes Registered Dietitians, Registered Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Naturopathic Doctors, and Clinical Counsellors, each typically a separate billable line in extended health. We also work with NIHB, VAC, and CAF. We check your specific coverage for free on your discovery call.
Does GFIT prescribe Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro?
No. GFIT is a coaching service, not a medical clinic. We don't prescribe medications, manage dosages, or monitor bloodwork. Our coaching wraps around your existing prescription — coordinated with your physician where appropriate.
Can I work with GFIT if I'm using compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide?
Yes. Many of our GLP-1 clients are on compounded versions, including patients of our pharmacy partner Platinum Compound Rx. Our coaching protocols are the same regardless of brand-name or compounded sourcing.
How does the weekly coach vs. monthly registered professional model actually work?
Your weekly relationship is with your certified health & fitness coach — they know your week, your dose, your training, your wins, your obstacles. Each month, you also meet 1:1 with the registered professionals whose disciplines matter for your situation (RD for nutrition, RSW or CC for behaviour change, ND for hormones, OT for routine, Psychologist for the deeper layer if needed). The certified coach is your continuous thread; the registered professionals are the clinical depth — and the monthly sessions are typically what insurance reimburses.
How long should I stay on a GLP-1?
That's a decision for you and your prescribing physician. Some patients stay on long-term, others use the medication for a defined period and then wean off. Either way, GFIT's role is to make sure the weight loss is built on sustainable behaviour — so whenever you come off, the loss holds.
What happens if I don't do coaching while on a GLP-1?
You can certainly lose weight without coaching — the drug will do that part. The risks are: significant muscle loss (up to 40% of total weight lost), permanently lowered metabolic rate, and high likelihood of weight regain when you come off the medication. Coaching addresses all three.
